Delta IV Heavy DSP Launch Cape Canaveral. Nov. 11, 2007
The DSP-23 launched the first operational satellite launch atop a ULA Delta IV Heavy Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV). United Launch Alliance is proud to launch DSP-23, the last satellite of this constellation that has been the cornerstone of North America’s early warning system for more than 35 years. The Delta IV Heavy (Delta 9250H) is an expendable heavy-lift launch vehicle, the largest type of the Delta IV family and the world's second highest-capacity rocket in operation, behind SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket.[4][5] It is manufactured by United Launch Alliance and was first launched in 2004. It carried the DemoSat which is a boilerplate spacecraft used to test a carrier rocket without risking a real satellite on the launch. They are most commonly flown on the maiden flights of rockets, but have also been flown on return-to-flight missions after launch failures.
