Flakstad, Norway
Flakstad is a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of the island group Lofoten. The municipality is located in the Lofoten Islands and comprises the entire island of Flakstadøya and the northern part of the island of Moskenesøya. The European route E10 highway runs across the whole municipality.
Flakstad Church was first mentioned in existing written sources in 1430, but it was likely built before that time. The building was a timber-framed cruciform design. It was destroyed by a storm during the 1700s. The new (present) church was built of timber from Russia. It was built next to the old the church and it seats about 300 people. One of chandeliers in the church also comes from Russia. Several of the items in today's church originate from the old the church including two chandeliers and the altartable. A hurricane blew the church tower off in 1874. The tower was then temporarily set up next to the church. During renovations in 1938, the tower was put back in place on top of the church.
Skagsanden is a popular beach on the Lofoten Islands.
It's most known for its fascinating black-sand patterns and at times perfect reflections of the picturesque mountain in the background. Skagsanden has become a popular destination for Aurora Chasers and if you're lucky you might get to see a couple surfers getting into the arctic water as well.
