Tunnels of Norway
There are over 1000 road tunnels in Norway (we currently have 1235 marked on our map). As Norway improves it's road system there are more opening each year. Some tunnels are often long (up to 24km), narrow and many are unlit.
Norway's geography is dominated by fjords and islands. As of 2011, the country has thirty-three undersea tunnels, most of which are fixed links. Tunnels are chosen to replace ferries to allow residents of islands and remote peninsulas access to regional centers, where water-crossings are too long for bridges. The Bømlafjord Tunnel is the country's longest, at 7,888 meters (25,879 ft), although it is scheduled to be surpassed by the 8,999-meter (29,524 ft) Karmøy Tunnel from 2013.[needs update] The Eiksund Tunnel is the world's deepest, reaching 287 meters (942 ft) below mean sea level.

Laerdal Tunnel connects Aurland and Laerdal. Sept. 15, 2019
The Laerdal Tunnel is the longest road tunnel in the world. It is 15.23 miles long road tunnel connecting Lærdal and Aurland in Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. The design of the tunnel takes into consideration the mental strain on drivers, so the tunnel is divided into four sections, separated by three large mountain caves at 3.7 miles intervals. While the main tunnel has white lights, the caves have blue lighting with yellow lights at the fringes to give an impression of sunrise. The caves are meant to break the routine, providing a refreshing view and allowing drivers to take a short rest.
